Stem Cell Therapy in Bourbannais
At Beyer Stem Cell Institute, our regenerative treatment plan involves stem cell therapy. But do you know what stem cell therapy is?
Stem cell therapy involves the process of injecting stem cells into your body to encourage the cells in your body to regenerate, or grow new, healthy cells. The role of these stem cells is to encourage the growth of different cell types, ranging from muscle cells to brain cells.
At Beyer, we use a type of stem cells called MSCs (or mesenchymal stem cells). These MSC’s are found in umbilical cord blood. When we inject these MSC’s into our patients, these stem cells work as messengers that encourage your present, damaged cells to regrow and regenerate.
Why Do We Need Extra Stem Cells?
If our body already has stem cells, it might not make sense why stem cell therapy involves injecting more stem cells into your body. But as your body ages, the number of MSCs present decreases. This is a natural process, but can make it harder for your body to grow or regenerate healthy cells. Since we use MSCs that are taken from umbilical cord blood, these younger stem cells are able to work as messengers that encourage your damaged cells to regenerate.
Additionally, since the MSCs are so young, the body doesn’t recognize these cells as foreign, completely eliminating any risk of the body rejecting or fighting these MSCs. In fact, there are currently no rejections or negative reactions associated with MSCs injections.
We also like to note that all of our MSCs are donated by the birth mother and comply with all FDA and other medical guidelines that pertain to those types of donations.
What Conditions Do MSCs Help With?
As your cells lose their ability to heal, the damaged cells in your body can start to cause pain. But since MSCs are able to work as messengers to help cells regenerate, they can target these damaged cells and help your body heal from a variety of painful conditions, including:
- Chronic pain
- Arthritis (i.e. osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis)
- Knee pain
- Joint pain
- Inflammation
- The effects of aging
Since stem cell therapy involves an injection of these MSCs into your body, it is also a much safer choice than some of the more invasive surgeries that can work to reduce your pain. Stem cell therapy is also a better alternative to pain medications. Different medicines only work to mask the pain at that moment, but don’t provide any long-term solutions for that pain. On the other hand, the goal of stem cell therapy is to use regenerative medicine to encourage the body to heal itself, eliminating the source of the pain instead of just masking the intensity of that pain.
